We build bridges to the wisdom of remarkable people
We are a small nonprofit in Freiburg im Breisgau. Our main project is Agora Cosmica, an open-source Living Library where thirty remarkable people from history speak.
We believe the ideas of history’s greatest minds are a living inheritance. They belong to everyone.
Sell your cleverness and buy bewilderment. Cleverness is mere opinion, bewilderment is intuition.— Rumi

The learning path
Each figure unfolds through four chapters. Each builds on the last, a path from a first encounter to an understanding of your own.
-
Story Receive
A scene from their life, told in their own voice.
-
Wisdom Explore
Work through one of their teachings with them, idea by idea.
-
Prism Connect
Hear them take that teaching further with three related thinkers.
-
Quest Prove
A Socratic test of what you understood, in conversation with them.
Alongside the path
An open conversation with the figure, with no set path.
Listen to four figures explore one of life’s questions together.
What makes it different
Honest by design
Every figure is openly an AI portrait. Each comes with factchecks: what history confirms, and what we retold.
A crafted catalog
Hundreds of stories, dialogues, and teachings, written by people and AI together, then revised and fact-checked again and again over two years.
Audio-first
Made to be heard, not only read, with the voices running on our own servers in Germany.
Privacy by design
No tracking cookies, no third-party analytics, no profiles that follow you between visits.
Nonprofit
No ads, no paywalls, no investors. Built for the public, not for profit.
Open source
The platform’s full source code is public on GitHub under the AGPL-3.0 license.
We are a doorway, not a destination. An introduction, not a university.
Our mission
We try to open doors to wisdom
Remarkable people throughout history left behind ideas that can change lives. Yet dense texts keep most people from ever encountering them. We are working to change that.
We do not replace deep study. We invite people to take the first step. Our thirty figures include philosophers like Plato, scientists like Einstein, mystics like Hildegard von Bingen, and pioneers like Ada Lovelace. We define wisdom broadly, because insight comes from many sources.
Our role
- A first conversation, not the final word
- A spark of curiosity, not a lecture
- A bridge to books, courses, and deeper study
- A complement to formal learning, never a replacement
Breaking down barriers
We celebrate when people outgrow us, moving from our introductions to primary texts, from AI conversations to human teachers, from curiosity to their own deeper exploration. That is not failure. That is the mission.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.— Laozi
Our values
Gratitude
Every era and tradition has something to teach us.
Curiosity
We learn with you, not about you.
Openness
Nonprofit. Open source. Built for the community, not for profit.
Transformation
What grows within ripples outward.
Our promise
We are early in this journey and we will make mistakes. When we oversimplify, misrepresent, or miss the mark, write to us at chipmates@chipmates.ai. We are not building for you, but with you.
